Earlier on June 14, 2006, the CJP Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had directed the banks to provide adequate seating arrangements and water facilities as well as shelter to their clients. In the result the State Bank of Pakistan ordered the banks to strictly follow the order and they follow the order till the removal of CJP Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
Now again on May 29, 2009 Justice Chaudhry ordered banks to provide seating and water and other facilities to citizens standing in queues to deposit bills or draw pensions.
In the pictures (dated June 29,2009) you see the IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons) from Swat and Buner, who are collecting their compensation package of Rs 25,000 from United Bank Bamkhel. They are waiting outside the bank under the scorching sun (Room temperature 45C°). But there is no shelter or water arrangement for them. There was no special arrangement for aged persons. I observed that they used to drink water from near by shopkeepers.
To sum up there is a need of strict action against these banks either by State Bank of Pakistan or by Supreme Court of Pakistan.
